Bio
Alexis Phinney is a flutist pursuing MM degrees in Flute Performance and Chamber Music at the University of Michigan, where she also earned a BM in Flute Performance and a BS in Pure Mathematics. She currently studies under Amy Porter and has previously studied with Conor Nelson, Laura Boor, and Natalie Pagel. She served as the flute studio’s Graduate Student Instructor, where she taught flute methods and private lessons, mentored young musicians through the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles, and enjoys maintaining a studio of her own. Passionate about chamber music, she is a member of Zenith Winds and Trio Serafina. Alexis has played a large variety of orchestral repertoire with the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and she has contributed to numerous recordings, including Sila: The Breath of the World, by John Luther Adams, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Orchestral Performance. She has performed in masterclasses with esteemed flutists such as Michael Hasel, Amanda Blaikie, Patrick Williams, Brian Dunbar, Valerie Coleman, and Lina Andonovska. Alexis is ecstatic to both teach and learn and is looking forward to many more musical experiences ahead of her.
